Libyan Sea

The Libyan Sea is located north of the African coast. It is part of the Mediterranean Sea and has a surface area of 350,000 km2. It was named after the region of Libya by ancient geographers. The Libyan Sea borders the Levantine Sea to the east, the Strait of Sicily to the west and the Ionian Sea to the north, where it also borders the island of Crete. Contrary to its northern neighbour, the Ionian Sea, the Libyan Sea only contains a few islands, namely the Greek islands of Gavods, Gavdopoula, Koufonisi and Chrysi.
