Gulf of Mexico
The Gulf of Mexico is an ocean basin that is part of the North Atlantic Ocean. It’s surrounded by the southern part of the United States and the Eastern part of Mexico. It has an area of around 1.550 million km2 and is connected to the Caribbean Sea and the Florida Straits. The Gulf of Mexico is home to many offshore petroleum rigs which have caused some environmental disasters in the past. It is also the location of many shipwrecks, caused by the frequent tropical storms that form in the area.
